Al-Attarine Madrasa
- Fez, Morocco
The courtyard of this small Marinid school is a wonderful example of Islamic architecture.

The Al-Attarin School, located to the north of the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque in Fes, is one of the most beautiful Moroccan schools, despite its small area, due to its wonderful decorations that make it a rare masterpiece. It was ordered to be constructed by the Marinid Sultan Abu Said Othman between 1323 and 1325 AD, and it is said that he personally supervised its establishment at the beginning.
The school of El-Attarin, whose name means "School of Attarin", takes its name from its location at the entrance to the historic spice and perfume market in Fez. But, unlike the crowded market that borders it, Al-Attarin School is an extraordinary place of calm.
At the heart of the school is a magnificently decorated rectangular courtyard that opens onto a square prayer hall. Around the student residence, simple rooms contrast dramatically with the arched courtyard and prayer hall, which provide the main attraction for a tourist's visit.
